Southern Butterfly QueerFarming and GreenCare –
Concept for a sustainable, inclusive lifestyle
Southern Butterfly QueerFarming and GreenCare combines sustainable agriculture, green care , agro-tourism and communal living into a holistic, forward-looking concept. The aim is to create an ecologically, socially and economically viable living space that protects the environment, strengthens regional economic cycles and at the same time offers people a living and working space close to nature.
Agriculture
Sustainable Agriculture & Village Development
The project focuses on the sustainable use of natural resources, the preservation of old crop and domestic animal breeds, and the use of ecological building materials. The aim is to promote biodiversity, practice climate-adapted agriculture, and manage resources in a way that conserves resources.
• Old crops and domestic animal breeds: By growing old and resilient varieties, genetic diversity and sustainable cultivation methods are preserved. The focus is also on endangered, robust domestic animal breeds, which are particularly suitable for organic farming due to their resilience.
• Ecological building materials: Sustainable materials such as wood, clay and straw are used in the construction. These natural building materials ensure a healthy living environment and minimize environmental impact.
• Regional manufacturers: Working with local craft businesses and producers promotes the regional economy and supports sustainable value creation. This creates local jobs and short transport routes reduce the ecological footprint.
• Energy-self-sufficient village model: The aim is to achieve extensive energy self-sufficiency through the use of renewable energies such as solar, wind and biogas plants as well as innovative storage technologies. Rainwater use and closed-loop systems support the self-sufficient village concept.
Green Care & Garden Therapy
Green Care uses the healing power of nature to promote health and well-being. Therapy gardens in particular offer people with physical or psychological challenges a protected place for relaxation, sensory perception and active occupation.
• Healing Gardens : These specially designed gardens offer places of retreat for people suffering from stress or mental illness. Targeted planting and natural design elements create a calming atmosphere.
• Horticultural Therapy : Working with plants is used therapeutically to promote cognitive, social and motor skills. By sowing, planting, watering and harvesting, people experience a sense of achievement and develop a stronger awareness of nature.
• Cognitive Therapy : Spending time in nature helps improve cognitive functions and reduce stress. Studies show that regular contact with nature improves concentration and mental health.

Green Care
Animal-assisted therapy
Animals are an important part of the therapy offering and support people on a physical, emotional and social level.
• Dogs: They help promote emotional stability and social skills, especially when working with children, seniors or people with special needs.
• Horses: Riding therapy improves motor skills, sense of balance and body awareness. Horses also have a calming effect on people with anxiety disorders or trauma.
• Llamas & Alpacas: Due to their calm nature, these animals are particularly suitable for therapeutic walks and relaxation exercises. Their presence promotes mindfulness and stress reduction.
QueerFarming & Community Living
A central concern of the projects is the creation of inclusive and intergenerational housing models that offer a safe and supportive living space, especially for LGBTQ+ people.
• LGBTQ+-friendly housing model: QueerFarming offers safe spaces for people who experience discrimination in traditional living and working environments. Consciously designed community structures promote respectful and diverse coexistence.
• Seniors on farms: Older people can live in community housing projects close to nature and actively participate in farm life. Intergenerational living creates new social networks that counteract isolation and loneliness.
• Self-sufficiency and ecological living: community gardens, sustainable building materials and renewable energy sources ensure an environmentally friendly and resource-saving way of life.
Community Living
Agro-Tourism & Farm Entertainment
The combination of sustainable tourism, nature experiences and education creates additional economic pillars and sensitizes visitors to ecological issues.
• Bed & Breakfast in a natural environment: Guests experience country life up close and gain an insight into sustainable agriculture.
• Therapy farms: Holiday guests can take part in green care programs, try gardening or interact with animals.
• Nature experiences & workshops: Offers such as herb walks, permaculture workshops or hands-on farms convey knowledge about sustainable lifestyles.
Garden Bathing – Immerse yourself in nature
Through the targeted design of landscape elements, a harmonious, natural environment is created that offers peace and relaxation.
• Natural soundscapes: Noise protection hedges and insect food plants provide a calming soundscape with birdsong and bees buzzing.
• Fragrant plants & herbs: A large selection of fragrant plants creates an individual fragrance experience.
• Microclimatic design: Wind protection, shade and sunny spots turn the garden into an oasis of well-being.
Microfarming
Microfarming is a particularly resource-efficient form of agriculture that can be operated economically even on small areas.
• Seasonal vegetables & herbs: Cultivation focuses on high-yielding, fast-growing crops.
• Manual work & sustainable management: Biointensive methods keep the soil healthy and maximize yields.
• Affordable entry: A small organic farm can be set up with little capital .
Tiny Forests
Microforests on small areas promote biodiversity and improve the urban climate.
• Dense planting for rapid growth
• Ecological Upgrading of Urban Spaces
• Promoting biodiversity and natural forest development
Green Care Forest
Forests as therapeutic spaces that promote health and well-being.
• Forest therapy for mental and physical health
• Safe paths & barrier-free recreational opportunities
• nature conservation & agroforestry use
Sensors and drones
Technology supports sustainable agriculture and environmental monitoring .
• Soil & moisture sensors for targeted irrigation
• Automated data analysis for quality control
• Drones for monitoring plant growth & forest fire protection
